Industry Leader Mark Nuzzo Joins Diamond Resorts International

Diamond Resorts International has just announced that Mark Nuzzo, a leading in the vacation ownership industry, has joined their company. He will assume the role of Executive Vice President of Global Resort Operations.

The role Nuzzo will take over was previously held by Ronan O’Gorman, who recently announced his retirement was the end of 2018 after a dedicated and successful career.

Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Resorts International, Michael Flaskey, commented on both men in the job transition:

“Mark is an expert in the industry, and we are excited to welcome him to our Diamond Resorts team. We also extend our sincerest gratitude to Ronan, who has committed to remain in his role as an advisor to ensure a smooth transition with his successor.”

Nuzzo joins Diamond Resorts International with close to 40 years of experience in the hospitality and vacation ownership industries. Previously, he served at the President of The Sonnenschein Groupe and its subsidiaries. Before that, Nuzzo was Managing Partner of Creative Impact LLC and President of RCI Resort Management. Nuzzo spent over 20 years involved in various leadership positions at Fairfield Community, the company that lead the original development and implementation of the Fairshare Plus Programs—now known as Wyndham Vacation Ownership.

Nuzzo commented that he is excited to join the team of leaders at Diamond Resorts International while helping them to grow globally and continue focusing on the customer.

O’Gorman accomplished many big milestones during his tenure at Diamond Resorts International. This includes launching the Resort Operations Fundamentals or providing world-class service, establishing financially healthy HOAs, maintaining and continually refurbishing resorts, and becoming the employer of choice.

El Cid Adds Mazatlan’s First Tesla Destination Charging Station

El Cid Resorts and Tesla have agreed that a Destination Charging Station will be placed at El Cid Marina Beach Hotel in Mazatlan. This would be the first Destination Charging Station in the Mexican city.

Two Tesla Wall Connectors and one universal charger have been installed at El Cid Marina Beach Hotel. The universal charger can be used for all electric cars. The Tesla-specific stations offer 58 miles per hour of charge. In order for a property to have Tesla Wall Connectors, it has to have the permission of Tesla. El Cid and Tesla will continue to add Destination Charging Stations to other El Cid properties, such as the Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Resort in Riviera Maya.

El Cid CEO Carlos Berdegue commented on the news:

“Being the first Tesla Destination Charging Site in Mazatlán means that we are always looking forward to innovate and offer the best to all of our guests.”

El Cid’s partnership with Tesla isn’t El Cid’s only venture into environmental sustainability. El Cid’s environmental efforts have been recognized with PROFEPA (Mexico’s Federal Environmental Agency)’s Touristic Environmental Quality Certification and TripAdvisor’s GreenLeaders distinction.

Kauai’s Royal Coconut Coast Renovation Projects Reach $37 Million

A number of Kauai resorts on Coconut Coast are continuing or on deck to begin renovation projects with completion goals for 2018 and 2019. These projects are valued at over $37 million dollars and are aimed to improving different areas of the luxury resorts.

Coco Beach, Kauai is a popular destination for those searching for oceanfront resorts. Currently, Kauai Shores Hotel, Mokihana Resort, and Pono Kai Resort are in the midst of substantial renovations. Kauai Shores will complete their projects in 2018 which included updates to their beachfront pool, deck, and large hot tub, as well as upgraded air conditioning units. Mokihana’s expected February 2018 renovation completions include refreshing all public spaces, lobby area, and rooms. Pono Kai has been in a six-year renovation as they renovate one building at a time including new floors, soundproofing, bathroom remodels, and furniture and appliance replacements. They are expected to finish their projects in June of 2018.

As some projects end, others are just beginning. Both the Kauai Courtyard at Coconut Beach and Hotel Coral Reef Resort will break ground on their newest improvements in 2018. Hotel Coral Reef will be adding a third story to their beachfront building, which will add two suites with kitchenettes and four guest rooms. Kauai Courtyard will be experiencing even more changes. Along with remodels of their lobby, meeting spaces, public spaces, courtyard, and guest rooms, Kauai Courtyard at Coconut Beach will also be renamed as a Sheraton property in 2019. Their renovations have an expected start date of August 2018 and conclude in February 2019.

Margaritaville Nashville to Begin Vacation Ownership Service

The popular Margaritaville Nashville Hotel has announced it will incorporate a vacation ownership feature to its property. The hotel is just the latest in a series of planned properties in the expanding Margaritaville Vacation Club brand, which is operated by Wyndham Worldwide. Located in Nashville’s hip SoBro neighborhood, the timeshare portion of the property will open in Summer 2019.

The new timeshare property will include 52 condominium-style units in the heart of Nashville. The facility will operate in tandem with the 217-unit hotel, which features an island-inspired atmosphere with premium on-site amenities. The Margaritaville Nashville will offer prospective guests and owners a rooftop relaxation and entertainment area, a pool, a sundeck, fire pits, plenty of live entertainment, and a bar & grill.

Darby Campbell, owner and president of the project’s developer, Safe Harbor Development, offered his thoughts on the area and the plans for the new resort:

“Nashville welcomes millions of visitors from around the world each year and there is nothing in the market right now like the one-of-a-kind experience we are about to introduce. Margaritaville Nashville has already broken ground on the project and plans an opening in the 2019 summer season. The first Margaritaville Vacation Club property in a metropolitan area, the resort will join the brand’s other properties, including locations in Pigeon Forge, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and the massive new property planned for Orlando.

Wyndham Adds Two Hawaiian Resorts to Its Network

Wyndham expands its network with two new resorts in Princeville, Hawaii: WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham Bali Hai Villas and WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham Ka ‘Eo Kai. In January 2018, the resorts will be made available to members of WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham.

Wyndham South Pacific Club includes 30 resorts. The new expansion is the club’s first foray out of the South Pacific, where it has resorts in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Fiji.

2018 Brings Major Renovations to Rosewood Bermuda

Starting January 2nd, Rosewood Bermuda—formerly Rosewood Tucker’s Point—will undergo major renovations. The resort will be closed during this time, and the renovations will cost $25 million, with some facilities being completely redesigned. The resort is slated to reopen April 2018.

Rosewood Bermuda’s guestrooms, spa, golf clubhouse, and beach club will see the most dramatic changes, with new food and beverage facilities being installed as well. Rosewood Bermuda will also improve its meeting spaces and offer more meeting spaces on the property’s second floor. The lobby will be designed to look like a private manor house with a new bar, lounge, and courtyard where guests can enjoy hot or cold beverages upon their arrival.

Some spaces, including many rooms and suites, will be in keeping with Rosewood hotels & Resorts’ philosophy of using the location of each property to inform its decor. Rosewood Bermuda will feature artwork from local artists and will draw inspiration from both past and present Bermuda, as well as a combination of indigenous and colonial Bermudian influences. In addition to local, hand-crafted artwork, rooms and suites will be furnished with a neutral color palate accented in blue, as well as fabrics inspired by the beach and Bermudian wildlife.

Australian based holiday lifestyle program, Accor Vacation Club, recently announced the addition of Mercure Gold Coast Resort to its growing network of properties. This totals the vacation club’s portfolio to 24 resorts.

The refurbishment team of Accor Vacation Club is currently redesigning accommodations on the resort site to fit the travel needs of their Club members. Members can book at stay at the resort starting on November 25th of this year.

RTX to Renew NTOA Partnership

Resort Travel & Exchange (RTX), a vacation exchange company, and the National Timeshare Owners Association (NTOA), an organization formed to educate owners and potential owners about vacation timeshares, will renew their partnership, according to RTX.

RTX and NTOA will benefit each other by allowing one another to break into new markets and promoting each other. NTOA is the largest organization for timeshare owners and the company seeks to grow even larger, by expanding into Mexico in late 2017.

NTOA CEO Gregory Crist spoke about the RTX partnership:

“We are very excited about expanding our formal relationship with RTX to include joint programming and promotional support for our members in the U.S. and Canada. While we have done a lot of things together over the last few years, the new RTX exchange and rental platform along with their award-winning service is a true win-win for timeshare and vacation owners who enjoy traveling more frequently and like saving money.”

The partnership will allow NTOA members to receive discounted RTX memberships, including its Premium Plus membership. RTX and NTOA will also engage in outreach together, by creating a series of roadshows at locations across the United States, intended to educate owners.

Hilton Grand Vacations Announces New Japan Resort

Timeshare giant Hilton Grand Vacations has entered into an agreement with Mori Trust to develop the brand’s first dedicated timeshare resort in the Japanese market. Dubbed the Hilton Okinawa Sesoko Resort, the mixed-use property will feature a Hilton-branded hotel as well as a specific facility for Hilton Grand Vacations Club members.

The new development will be constructed on Japan’s Sesokojima Island. The first phase of the project, the Hilton-branded hotel, will include upscale living spaces, two gourmet restaurants, a lounge, event spaces, fitness facilities, breathtaking ocean views, and more. The Mori Trust will begin constructing the development with plans to open the resort by 2020.

The second phase is the dedicated Hilton Grand Vacations timeshare space, which will be open to HGV members and owners. Timeshare owners will have the distinct luxury of enjoying one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments spread over a private 132-unit building, while also taking full advantage of the property’s complete facilities and amenities. Timeshares will be sold by fixed weeks and flex weeks, though current Hilton Grand Vacations members may be able to use points or other internal exchange options to secure weeks at the resort.

Mark Wang, president and CEO of Hilton Grand Vacations, had this to say about the project:

Apple Leisure Group Adds Two New Properties – and Another Country – to Its Network

Apple Leisure Group (ALG) is developing two new resorts in St. Lucia, a country previously untouched by the company. St.Lucia is the ninth country in ALG’s growing network, which also includes properties in other Caribbean countries, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama. Apple Leisure Group has 16 new resorts planned to be completed by 2019—creating a network of 60 total resorts.

Apple Leisure Group CEO Alex Zozaya spoke of the new resort:

“The ALG family of companies has a deep-rooted relationship with the Caribbean. We are invested in joining projects that bring tourism to the region, creating jobs and driving an economic stimulus.”

Infinite Property Group, Ltd. is developing the new St. Lucia resorts as part of the residential and luxury resort community, Canelles Resort and Residences at Honeymoon Beach. Infinity Property Group, part of Infinite Holdings, Ltd., will also add luxury condominiums and villas, as well as an 18-hole Nicklaus Design golf course, to the community by 2020.

New Vacation Club in Brazil Joins Interval International

Interval International recently announced the addition of Clube Encantos de Lazer e Ferias to their network of resort affiliates. This points-based vacation club features eight hotel properties in southern Brazil, operated by Rede Encantos de Hotéis.

Clube Encantos de Lazer e Ferias was founded in 2002 by Alceu Lucas and currently oversees five hotel properties in Gramado, two in Florianópolis, and one in Torres.

“The launch of Clube Encantos de Lazer e Ferias places Rede Encantos de Hotéis on the leading edge of vacation ownership in southern Brazil, with its properties and sales galleries located in two very highly visited destinations,” said Marcos Agostini, Interval’s executive vice president of global sales and business development. “We’re very pleased to be working with such a well-respected company and to add its properties to Interval’s growing resort network in Brazil.”

Wyndham Wins Prestigious Awards in Customer Service

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific’s customer experience team and vice president of customer experience won prestigious awards for customer service at the Australian Service Excellence Awards (ASEAs) on October 25th. The ASEAs were held in Sydney at the Westin Hotel, and Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific’s Customer Experience team won the Customer Service Team of the Year—Large Business Award, and Wyndham Vice President of Customer Experience Adam Geneave won a Service Hero award in the category of Customer Service Executive of the Year.

The awards are held each year by the Customer Service Institute of Australia, with over 650 people attending the event annually. The ASEAs celebrates excellent and innovative customer service from renowned companies like Telstra, Australia Post, and more.
